Avis Rent A Car has published a free duty of care white paper to help SMEs get their road risk policies in place for employees who drive on company business.

It hopes the four-page document will help the thousands of SMEs who have failed to respond to the Health and Safety (Offences) Act or Corporate Manslaughter, which legislates against companies that breach their employee duty of care.

Alternatively, it provides an update and sanity check to those companies that already have road risk policies in place.

“Research undertaken over the past couple of years constantly sees SMEs as most at risk of prosecution, which is why we took the subject back to basics,” explained Anthony Ainsworth, Avis corporate sales director. “The White Paper provides comprehensive advice and support across all aspects of duty of care.”

Avis has divided the white paper into five sections that look at all aspects of duty of care, including: what it is; the legal element; the human element; the vehicle element; and the role of daily rental in helping SMEs protect employees.
