Fuel card comparison site launched

The Fuelcard Expert site comparison enables businesses to compare fuel cards from major brands, including fuel cards from BP, Esso, Shell, Texaco, Total, Diesel Direct and UK Fuels.

The site ensures that any user can compare major UK discount fuel card, matching the features and benefits of each one against their own specific circumstances. In just two simple steps, the user is prompted to click in the details of their fleet and refuelling needs. The result is immediate giving both the best choice and a second-best option. It also shows exactly how much money could be saved, in a month and in a year by buying at a discount on prevailing pump prices.

Steve Clarke, analyst for the company said: “It takes just a few seconds to compare everything available. The only thing it doesn’t check are pump-price-plus cards, but who wants to pay pump prices plus service charges, when they could enjoy typical discounts of 3p to 4p per litre, or even a 10p per litre saving on the motorway? Anyone who already has a fuel card should use The Fuelcard Expert now to check whether they have the best deal, because they can guarantee that they made their previous choice without considering all the options. Esso, Shell and Texaco all offer great products, but you can not be absolutely certain that they are the best for your circumstances if you did not even check the benefits of BP and Total.”

What is this supplier premium, Mr. Tuohy? I think you'll find that it's not difficult for a customer to enjoy a discount of 3p to 4p per litre on national average pump prices (10p / litre or more on motorway prices). More to the point, your own web site cites an example of a customer using 100,000 litres per month... How much? Fuel cards have not been the sole preserve of the very biggest users for a long, long time. Any business spending just £500 monthly on fuel should be able to get a fuel card that brings them discounts, providing they can pass the routine credit check necessary to enjoy the interest-free credit. The key is to shop around: choice is essential, so customers should avoid any supplier than can't offer a full range including all of the Big Five - BP, Esso, Shell, Texaco and Total. Supplier premium is the margin charged above the physical cost of the product. Put simplistically the price we pay for fuel is made up of the following elements: 1. Physical cost of the product (Platts) 2. Duty 3. Supplier Margin By shopping around consumers can influence number 3, Portland can fix number 1 and duty remains in the hands of the government.
