Job vacancies in the transport and logistics sector have risen by 35% in recent months compared to the same period last year.

Working Links reports it was the largest growth sector in the UK, with on average 22,924 vacancies a month between August and October, 2010.

“It is very encouraging to see the transport and logistics sector performing well,” said a Working Links spokesman.

“We are working closely with employers in this sector to find out exactly what skills and qualities they are looking for, and to help the right candidates gain those skills needed for fulfilling and sustainable employment in this area.”

Examples of the roles that have seen an increase include van drivers and transport and distribution clerks.

Working Links runs more than 100 Government contracts helping people to find work or updating their skills set. Figures are based on information from the Office for National Statics and the welfare to work industry.
