Driver Intelligence helps clients with the day-to-day challenges of driver and vehicle risk management and is rolling out its management system to some of the biggest names in the motoring industry.

The privately-owned company offers a unique online management system and driver training solution that enables fleet managers to better manage every aspect of their drivers and vehicles, intuitively and in one place.

Richard Burgess, Director at Driver Intelligence, said: "Our aim is to provide clients with information that can be used to inform decision making around the most cost effective and efficient means of managing fleet risk. As a relatively young company, we’re very proud to be working with, among others, Toyota and insurance provider Aioi Nissay Dowa.

“One issue faced by many fleet managers is understanding who, other than their employees, may be driving their company vehicles. We have a ‘nominated driver’ module to include relatives and non-relatives which, following work with Toyota, has been enhanced to offer greater levels of flexibility and control.”

Case study: Driving down insurance claims for Toyota

Just four months after implementing the Driver Intelligence System, Toyota is beginning to see improvements in its driver and vehicle management.

Aioi Nissay Dowa provides the fleet insurance policy for Toyota (GB) PLC and its associated and subsidiary companies. Upon review, it was found that more than 40% of all Toyota’s insurance claims were being made by nominated drivers.

Driver Intelligence worked with the team at Toyota to review the risk and identify key steps that could be taken to reduce both Toyota’s risk exposure and Aioi’s policy claims.

Harry Jones, General Manager of Legal & Compliance at Toyota (GB) PLC, said: ”It’s very important that our employee and their families have access to the latest vehicles to enable us to promote the product. However, we needed to have a better insight into claims from nominated drivers.

“Many employees have access to multiple vehicles that can be changed at relatively short intervals; they’re also driven by a broad spectrum of people across the UK. Before implementing the Driver Intelligence System, we recorded everything on paper and clearly this had to change.

“I’m extremely pleased with both the clarity of data and improvements to our driver information that the Driver Intelligence System is producing. I’m also looking forward to seeing a positive impact on our insurance claims, which can come through better risk assessment and a driver training programme.”

Nigel Loxton-Read, Managing Director - UK at Aioi Nissay Dowa, commented: ”Using the Driver Intelligence System is already allowing our clients and ourselves to gain a clearer understanding of where the main risks lie within each community of drivers on a  particular Fleet.

“With the introduction of a targeted bespoke driver training programme, we hope to see the same positive impact on Toyota’s claims profile as we have seen with other clients supported by Driver Intelligence.”
