The new model is based Audi's Premium Platform Combustion (PPC), like the new A5.

It will be powered by a range of mild hybrid engines, plus a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

The initial powertrain offer will consist of a 2.0-litre petrol with 204PS and a 2.0-litre diesel with 204PS. There will also be an SQ5 with a petrol V6.

The plug-in hybrid Q5 will come later.

Audi claims the new Q5 offers more passenger space than before. It comes with a fully adjustable rear seat, that can be moved to benefit either legroom or luggage space.

Using Audi's new interior design language, the Q5 features a combined infotainment and insrument cluster display panel that sits along the top of the dashboard. The central touchscreen integrates key functions such as climate controls and also features a variety of connected entertainment services.

The sharper looking Q5 takes styling cues from its electric sister car, the Q6 e-tron.

UK pricing and specifcation will be announced in October. The Q5 will be available in Sport, S line and Edition 1 trim levels.
