With the road safety charity Brake campaigning for zero road deaths or serious injuries by 2040, artificial intelligence (AI) and video technologies are vital to monitoring driver behaviour and providing interventions and training when required, says Solera.
The company's SmartDrive technology combines AI-enabled video safety, advanced analytics, telematics, and compliance apps to improve fleet safety.
The cloud-based platform's AI understands and monitors driver behaviour and road conditions, and provides guidance to improve driver skills.
In the case of a road incident, the technology offers evidence instantly.
Jog Lall, business development director, Solera, said: “We support Brake's campaign to achieve zero road deaths and serious injuries by 2040.
“Driver behaviour is one of the most significant factors in road incidents, and the latest technology can play a vital role in monitoring and improving their performance.
“SmartDrive is proven to reduce the number of incidents within corporate fleets and also brings a host of other benefits such as lower insurance, more careful driving and the lower emissions that come with it.”
According to Orsa, 94% of car crashes are caused by human error, and around a third of incidents involve a person driving for work purposes.
Jog concluded: “Every business strives for zero accidents at work. Staff driving for work is no different, and there is technology available that can drastically reduce road accidents. We encourage all fleets to implement the technology and participate in Brake's campaign.”
SmartDrive is part of Solera's Fleet Solutions, a digital hub that helps fleets to operate safely and efficiently.
The technology proactively eliminates risk and optimises operational performance by reducing incident frequency, exonerating drivers, lowering fuel costs, and reducing a fleet's carbon footprint.
