The first full trading week of 2025 produced the biggest sold volume of used electric vehicles (EVs) on record at BCA.
Almost 1,000 units sold during the week, with both cars and specialist LCV product featured.
BCA says that this continues the positive sales trends for EVs during 2024 and additionally reflects the strong start to the New Year across the wider used vehicle market.
Last year, more than 3,000 different buyers bought an EV from BCA - a 35% increase on the previous year.
The company says it is on track to sell more than 40,000 units over the next 12 months as the used EV market continues to grow.
BCA reports that demand is being driven by the confidence to purchase and the recognised value that many used EVs now appear to be, with many being on a par or cheaper than their internal combustion engine (ICE) equivalent.
Anecdotal reports from buyers suggest that used EV retail sales have got off to a good start in the New Year with rising levels of interest from consumers.
BCA chief operating officer, Stuart Pearson, said: “A record broken in the first full trading week of the year certainly sets the tone for trading and provides credibility to the belief that customer perception on used EVs is changing for the good.
“With returns expected to lift significantly this year, we continue to invest in the infrastructure and supporting services to create the best possible wholesale market for used EVs.”
The volumes of electric vehicles reaching the remarketing sector are roughly doubling each year and with the Department for Transport (DfT) announcing that 2025 will see annual zero emission vehicle (ZEV) mandate targets increase from 22% to 28%, used EV returns are expected to continue to increase.
Last October, BCA introduced battery health grading, with used EVs graded from A-E, accompanied by the numbered score of an Aviloo battery ‘flash test’.
The report aims to provide transparency and removes some of the myths surrounding higher mileage vehicles.
Pearson concluded: “Whilst the remarketing basics remain relevant regardless of fuel or vehicle type, in this sector in particular, ensuring that customers have all of the available information when buying or selling will help to drive the best results.”
