Self-driving Lutz Pathfinder pods will be operating at LCV2015, which takes place on September 9, and September 10 at Millbrook Proving Ground.

Transport Systems Catapult will be demonstrating the Lutz Pathfinder at the event, hoping to show how low carbon technologies will find a natural partnership with autonomous vehicles, which can be programmed to optimise energy usage said the company.

The Transport Systems Catapult stand at LCV2015 will also feature a virtual reality experience utilising an Oculus Rift head-mounted display, that will allow visitors to interact with the pods in a virtual Milton Keynes.

Steve Yianni, CEO of Transport Systems Catapult, said: "The Lutz pods are sustainably run on a lithium ion battery connected to an electric motor, which can be recharged in a similar way to existing models of electric car.

"Such vehicles have huge implications for addressing climate change: road transport currently contributes about one-fifth of the EU’s total CO2 emissions, which could be significantly reduced with autonomous systems designed to travel efficiently.”

Designed and manufactured by Coventry-based firm RDM, Lutz Pathfinders will be operating in Milton Keynes later this year, in public pedestrianised spaces, using designated stretches agreed with partners at Milton Keynes Council.

LCV2015 will take place on September 9, and September 10 at Millbrook Proving Ground.
