TomTom provides enhanced navigation to Iveco commercial vehicles
TomTom has been selected by Iveco to power its navigation solution in vehicles globally.
Iveco's new light commercial vehicle Daily, the electric eDaily, and heavy-duty S-Way truck will come equipped with TomTom’s full stack navigation, featuring maps, custom truck routing, real-time traffic information, and connected services.
The solution is further enhanced with advanced connectivity, designed to maximise uptime and enable over-the-air updates.
“We’re excited to expand our collaboration with Iveco to develop new solutions that cater to the ever-evolving needs of fleet drivers and operators, and the logistics industry at large,” said Mike Schoofs, chief revenue officer at TomTom.
“By providing businesses with seamless access to up-to-date and precise location data, we enable enhanced navigation for fully electric, mixed, or gas-powered fleets to help optimize their activities.”
Lorenzo Marangio, head of service solutions at Iveco, added: “By leveraging TomTom’s industry-leading maps, navigation software, and traffic insights, we can offer an advanced navigation solution tailored to better optimize fleet deliveries, improve the driver experience, and increase our customer’s overall business productivity.”
FM Conway expands HVO fuel use
FM Conway has extended its use of hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) in its local and strategic highways operations, shifting away from diesel in its work to achieve net zero.
FM Conway projects the move will save around 3,000 tonnes CO2e through to the end of the current financial year.
In April, FM Conway will assess the feasibility of making a permanent switch to HVO.
This investment marks a major step in the company’s road to net zero, and the carbon savings are the equivalent of taking 60 HGVs off the road for one year.
The fuel will be supplied by New Era Energy, whose delivery trucks will also be powered by HVO, maximising carbon savings across the supply chain.
Matt Tallon, sustainability director at FM Conway, said: “Our self-delivery model allows us a greater degree of independence and flexibility with our operations, processes, products and fleet, giving us room to test different approaches and ultimately deliver benefits to our clients.
“The extended run of this trial, until April next year, will give our clients a taste of what’s available and achievable - and how they can use it to accelerate their own decarbonisation journey.”
Leyland Trucks raises almost £15,000 for local causes
Leyland Trucks’ Helping Hand charitable arm brought even more excitement to the competition-fuelled summer of 2024, with its annual Linking Leyland event series combining sporting challenges and family fun to raise much-needed funds for local charities.
Through a series of events, comprising a truck pull, an 85, 60, and 25-mile cycle ride, a 10k and 1k run, and a duck race, Leyland Trucks employees, multiple co-sponsors, and the Lancashire community rallied together to raise an impressive £14,806.
These funds will support the work of St Catherine’s Hospice, Best Foot Forward for Georgie, North West Air Ambulance Charity, and Tender Nursing Care.
Phil Jones, director of operations at Leyland Trucks and chairman of Helping Hand, said: "We’re absolutely delighted with the success of this year’s Linking Leyland series, and the nearly £15,000 raised will go a long way in supporting the fantastic charities we’ve partnered with.
“Linking Leyland is rooted in the spirit of giving back to our local community, and it’s always humbling to witness how people come together to support those in need.
“Every penny raised through these events will provide vital, life-changing services to the families, friends, and neighbours who rely on these charities.”
Generation Logistics takes to the streets to challenge industry perceptions
The awareness campaign Generation Logistics has continued to challenge perceptions of the sector, by taking its message directly to thousands of people in another first for the logistics sector.
Using mobile AdVans – the first time that such a medium has been used to promote roles within the sector – Generation Logistics’ messages about the opportunities available for those seeking a career in the industry were delivered directly to the campaign’s target audience in Leeds, Manchester and Nottingham over three days.
Programme director, Bethany Windsor, said: “Putting messages out on the streets, right under the noses of those we want to attract, was a bold move, but an opportunity we cannot afford to miss when the sector’s skills shortage represents a real opportunity for young people.”
The AdVans were seen by almost 60,000 people during the three-day period, with research showing that consumers on the street spent 80% longer viewing the vans than they would traditional out of home advertising.
Celebrations as Grundon marks 10th anniversary of its ‘CarbonNeutral’ fleet
Grundon Waste Management is celebrating 10 years of its ‘CarbonNeutral’ fleet certification programme.
Over the past decade, its commercial fleet, as well as company cars and vans, have travelled more than 61 million miles, enabling the company to offset the equivalent of over 115,000 tonnes of carbon and help make a real difference to communities around the world.
Grundon chairman, Neil Grundon, said: “Whilst we recognise carbon offsetting is just one of the solutions to help combat climate change, we take immense pride in our decade-long commitment to making a positive impact through carbon neutrality since 2014.
“As the first of the major waste industry players to adopt the CarbonNeutral fleet certification, we led the way in offsetting our carbon emissions and ensuring that waste collections did not add to our customers’ carbon footprint.”
Working with Climate Impact Partners, experts in the voluntary carbon market, to date, Grundon has supported nine projects across the world.
These have included delivering reforestation and water infrastructure programmes, enabling more than 90,000 people in Uganda to have access to safe water, and distributing more than 75,000 efficient cookstoves to communities in Kenya, Uganda and India.
Grundon has pledged to continue its CarbonNeutral fleet certification programme alongside expanding its fleet of electric waste collection vehicles (EVs) and embracing other alternative fuels, including hydrogen and HVO.
