Transport Scotland are holding a public consultation to seek views on its vision for the country’s public electric vehicle (EV) charging network.
The Scottish Government recently published a draft implementation plan that outlines the key actions that it says will deliver Scotland's previously published Vision for public EV charging.
The Draft Electric Vehicle Public Charging Network Implementation Plan identifies 15 key actions to be taken forward by a wide range of stakeholders, including the Scottish Government, to achieve Scotland’s vision for public EV charging.
These actions cover a range of topics including continuing to attracting private sector investment to expand public EV charging, and ensuring the public EV charging network meets the needs of all users, including those living in rural and island communities, and those with diverse accessibility needs.
On a per head of population basis, Scotland has more public EV charge points than any other part of the UK, except London, and more rapid public EV charge points than any other part of the UK.
In November 2024, Scotland met its target for 6,000 public EV charge points - two years ahead of the 2026 deadline.
This target was achieved through a combination of public funding and increasing private sector investment.
The Scottish Government says it now needs to go “faster and further”, if it is to achieve its commitment to deliver approximately 24,000 additional public EV charge points by 2030.
The consultation closes at midnight on March 14, 2025.
