Newcastle City Council has chosen Enterprise Car Club to provide businesses and residents with access to pay-as-you-go vehicle hire from a wide range of locations across the city.
Low-emission vehicles are provided by Enterprise Car Club from designated parking bays in the city centre and in residential areas.
Cars can be hired by the hour and the day, with vehicles available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Cllr Juna Sathian, cabinet member for climate and transport at Newcastle City Council, said: “The car club offers members convenient and affordable access to a low-emission car for one-off or regular trips, helping to support residents who don’t have access to, or choose not to have, a vehicle of their own.
“By promoting shared car use, the scheme also means there are fewer vehicles on our streets, helping to reduce traffic emissions and pressure on parking spaces.
“The car club has been an important part of our transport network in Newcastle over a number of years and we’re delighted that residents and businesses will continue to enjoy the benefits it provides.”
Enterprise Car Club was appointed following a recent procurement exercise to operate the car club for the next two years.
Chris Turnbull, vice-president and general manager for the north east at Enterprise Mobility, said: “Enterprise Mobility has been part of the city for many years, and we are thrilled to be strengthening our partnerships to offer employees, residents and visitors more choice in how they travel.”
Enterprise Car Club is offering a range of discounts on the first year of membership in Newcastle.
