Tributes have been paid to the managing director of Rabbits Vehicle Hire after he died on Wednesday (January 8).

Steve Dore had been MD of the Reading-based vehicle rental company for the past three-and-a-half years, having been at the firm as a director for more than 20 years.

Kevin Rapson, chairman and founder of Rabbits Vehicle Hire, said: “It is with profound sadness, that on behalf of Rabbits, I have to announce the sudden death on Wednesday of my dear friend and business partner, Rabbits MD, Steve Dore.

“Our love goes out to his wife Michelle and son, Frankie, at this devasting time."

Paying tribute to his former colleague, Rapson continued: “Steve was of course so much more than our MD – he was like a son to me and our families have been extremely close for many years. His energy and passion for the business was incredible and I for one, will miss him terribly.

“Steve had been an integral part of the Rabbits team for more than 20 years. His leadership, influence and passion for the business, and industry knowledge were all instrumental in growing Rabbits into the success it is today.

“But he will be remembered for so much more than that. The team will remember him for the care he always showed everyone he met, his trademark smile and sense of humour.”

He added: “I would like to thank in advance, our customers and suppliers for their ongoing support and understanding as we work out the practical day to day operations, but in the meantime myself, George, Kurt and the rest of the team can be contacted in the usual way.”

Rapson also expressed his gratitude to everyone at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, who he said did all they could for Dore and for the great care they gave him and his family.
