Only a few places remain for those wishing to take part in the FTA's Van Excellence driver of the year competition.
The driver of the year event offers van drivers the opportunity to demonstrate their overall ability, skills and professionalism behind the wheel and is open to Van Excellence accredited operators, who are invited to nominate their best driver to enter the competition.
Iron Mountain’s Cameron Weir, the winner of the 2014 FTA Van Excellence driver of the year competition, said: “I was proud to represent Iron Mountain at an event like this – it was a great day and winning was a bonus. At Iron Mountain we’re all good, and drive to the same standard – I think that all my colleagues would do just as well if they were to take part.”
Drivers taking part are put to the test though a variety to tasks divided into five separate categories - driving skills (fuel economy and driver behaviour), manoeuvring ability, the drivers’ risk awareness, checked legislative knowledge, and ability to identify pre-use defects of the vehicle. Contestants will be scored on each element of the competition and ranked based on their scores.
FTA’s head of vans - Mark Cartwright - commented:
“The calibre of entries to the 2015 FTA Van Excellence Driver of the Year competition is outstanding. This is the second event of its kind, and offers van drivers a perfect opportunity to demonstrate the great work they do, and the vital role they play within UK logistics industry. We know how good they are at their jobs and this competition helps them gain the recognition they deserve.”
The cost to enter the 2015 Van Driver of the Year competition is £50 per participant and entries are restricted to Van Excellence accredited members. The winning driver will be awarded a £1000 holiday voucher, with an iPad mini and Red Letter Day for the 2nd and 3rd placed drivers.
