VW has added a performance-focused range-topping GTX Performance variant to the ID3 line-up.

Described as the "electric Golf GTI", the new model is priced from £46,225.

It is equipped with an 84kWh battery that gives a range of 369 miles. The electric motor produces 326PS - giving a 0-62mph time of 5.7 seconds.

Sports suspension, progressive steering and Volkswagen’s DCC adaptive chassis control system all come as standard to provide a more dynamic driving experience.

There is also a unique exterior design, with GTX-specific bumpers and new 20-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, sporty bucket seats along with GTX-specific trims and upholstery help the new model stand out.

“The ID.3 GTX Performance is, for me, the electric counterpart to the Golf GTI Clubsport,” said Kai Grünitz, Member of the Volkswagen Brand Board of Management responsible for Technical Development.

“Of course, an electric drive and a turbocharged petrol engine each have their own unique character. Yet the ID.3 GTX Performance and the Golf GTI Clubsport share the same fascinating lightness when they accelerate.

“Volkswagen is transferring the almost 50-year tradition of its compact GT models into the world of electric mobility. Driving pleasure is guaranteed.”
