Alfa Romeo is hoping the Stelvio will compete with premium crossovers like the Jaguar F-Pace and the Porsche Macan.
The Stelvio offers the right balance of responsive handling, a premium feel and Italian character which could help it to to lure drivers away from other crossovers in the £30,000-£50,000 price bracket.
Engines and transmissions are shared with the recently introduced Giulia saloon, meaning customers can choose from a rear-wheel drive 180PS 2.2-litre diesel, and Q4 all-wheel drive models including a 210PS version of the diesel, and 200PS and 280PS 2.0-litre petrol variants.
