Only two engines have been confirmed for launch: a 1.3-litre petrol unit (A 200) with 163PS and emissions from 119g/km and a 1.5-litre diesel (A 180 d) with 116PS and CO2 from 107g/km. Both use a seven-speed automatic gearbox.
Mercedes says the A-Class saloon has class-leading rear headroom and a competitive 420-litre boot.
