##Vectra CD--left##VAUXHALL'S response to the new Ford Mondeo is to deliver more for the fleet operator's money. The latest Vectra features bigger engines and more standard equipment for a lower list price, and raise the stakes still further on top of the mid-life facelift, chassis and suspension improvements and restyled interior introduced in 1999. The Vectra still has its work cut out in competing with newcomers such as the revised Volkswagen Passat and new Renault Laguna, but with extra value for money, Luton's stalwart is growing old gracefully.

Tested here is the Vectra CD 2.2 DTi 5dr at £17,690 on the road - £480 less than the Mondeo Ghia 2.0 Di 5dr.
