Fleets that buy into telematics must weigh up requirements versus costs before making a decision, according to Jeremy Gould, UK sales manager at TomTom Work.

Failure to do so could result in a fleet either choosing the wrong system or wasting a lot of money, warned Gould.

“Six years ago telematics was expensive so there was a slow take up rate,” he said.

“We made our system more affordable and easy to use and it is now installed in 100,000 vehicles.”

Gould said some fleets spent vast amounts of time and money developing bespoke systems.

TomTom, however, doesn’t do specific requirements, but claims its standard platform covers 80-90% of all CV fleet requirements.
