Assistant Transport Manager - Permanent
Location: Birmingham, B26 Area
Assistant Transport Manager Pay rate:
• £35,000 - £38,000 Dependent on Experience.
Assistant Transport Manager Shift pattern:
• Monday to Friday
• 08:00 - 17:00
Assistant Transport Manager Job role:
• Maintain all relevant aspects of a safe, legal and compliant transport operation.
• To ensure the customer receives a first class and professional service in all communication.
• To demonstrate a keen eye whilst working under pressure.
• De-brief drivers ensuring we keep a tight control on all aspects of the paperwork.
• Proactive communication with delivery partners and customers
• Maintain a safe working environment by ensuring you comply with statutory law, company policy & health & safety guidelines
• Assist in the adherence to Drivers Hours Regulations in accordance with the working time directive.
• Ensuring drivers and transport staff's training is up to date with company standards and arrange any required training.
• Ensure that all relevant statutory laws, EU Drivers Hours Rules & Regulations, Road Transport (Working Time) Regulations, Operators Licence and OCRS obligations, FORS requirements are adhered too and all Company policies and procedures communicated and applied at all times.
• Ensure that drivers are issued with the correct documentation and fully informed on both the customers’ requirements and our expectations.
• Full and thorough driver briefing and de-briefing, both remotely and at base – Carry out daily welfare checks on all remote drivers; check in/out all company issued devices and equipment; communicate shift start times and manifest details; check documentation accuracy and address any errors
• Communicate all issues and concerns with both internal and external customers in a timely manner and maintain an open and transparent dialogue with all parties.
• Monitor driver performance, delays and demurrage and identify opportunities to improve efficiencies and increase profitability.
• Analyse all relevant areas of responsibility, set KPI’s and manage improvement objectives.
• Maintain a cohesive and efficient working relationship with all suppliers and staff and liaise effectively with the Fleet Compliance team to ensure that all legal compliance requirements are correctly communicated and organised efficiently.
• Involvement in projects as required for continual improvement, leading to improved efficiency and increased profitability.
• Creating and promoting best practices for drivers and leading from the front to provide a positive and proactive culture in all areas of responsibility.
• Involvement in projects as required for continual improvement to help the business achieve our standards and where possible exceed them to provide first-class services to our clients.
• Overall objectives will be further developed in line with the company’s strategic objectives.
What we are looking for:
• Experience in a transport operational role
• Motivated individual looking for long-term progression.
• Excellent customer service skills
• Intermediate skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
• High levels of attention to detail.
• Transport Management CPC is desirable but not essential.
