ALAMO Rent-A-Car has been bought for $625 million by Republic Industries Inc. a diversified US based corporation. Republic has four core businesses which include a transport portfolio. Key to the transport arm is a vehicle distribution and disposal operation called AutoNation USA, which specialises in the sale of high quality, nearly new vehicles.

Republic Industries has announced its intention to expand globally, plans which will include the development of an AutoNation Europe. More details will be released in the new year.

Alamo operates a fleet of 130,000 vehicles in the United States, and also has locations in Canada and 10 European countries including a UK operation which has expanded rapidly in recent years.
