THE shortlist of manufacturers for the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association's 1997 security awards has been revealed. Following preliminary judging, the shortlisted vehicles will be subject to testing by the Metropolitan Police Stolen Vehicle Squad before final judging takes place next month.

In their ninth year, the awards have been renamed the British Security Awards and expanded to four categories:

In the volume car category the shortlisted finalists are Ford, Vauxhall and Rover and in the executive/luxury category the shortlisted finalists are BMW, Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz. In the commercial vehicle categories Ford and Vauxhall will battle it out for the LCV award, while the only finalist in the HGV sector is Leyland DAF. However the police have still to test the security on their models.
