VOLKSWAGEN has introduced its 100bhp 1.6 engine to the Golf range to deliver new performance and better fuel economy. The new engine, which debuted in the Polo saloon earlier this year, replaces the 90bhp 1.8 unit found in the GL, but is available for the same price as its predecessor.
Maximum speed increases from 111mph to 116mph and a second is shaved off the 0-62mph time, but urban fuel economy improves by 15% to almost 30mpg. The on-the-road price is £14,000 and standard equipment includes all-round electric windows, door mirrors and sunroof, alloy wheels, immobiliser and a three-year warranty (one year manufacturer - second and third year dealer warranty).
