EMAP Automotive, publishers of Fleet News, has appointed the UK's leading motor industry academic, professor Garel Rhys, as a non-executive director. Rhys holds the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders chair in motor industry economics at the Cardiff Business School and is also director of the Centre for Automotive Research at Cardiff University. He is also a regular contributor to radio and television on the motor industry.

Rhys is a Fellow of both the Institute of Transport Administration and the Institute of the Motor Industry and advises select committees in both Houses of Parliament as well as the National Audit Office. He was awarded the OBE in 1989 for services to the motor industry.

EMAP Automotive also publishes Fleet News on the Net, Fleet Car, Autotrade and Coach & Bus Week, owns information services CAP and Sewells and organises exhibitions such as the Fleet Show.
