FLEET diesel sales in May were narrowly up on May 1995 levels at 16,762 (16,448) in a total diesel market down 1.7% at 29,197 (29,707). Peugeot remains the number one fleet manufacturer in a year which has seen fleet diesel sales narrowly down on 1995 levels at 93,199 (93,915) in a total diesel market down 9.4% at 159,406 (175,870).

Last month the Peugeot 306 was the best-selling fleet car with the 406 and 106 all in the top seven best-sellers, while for the year to date the Ford Mondeo is the best selling fleet diesel car with total sales of 9,947.

Top 10 best-selling fleet diesel manufacturers in May were: Peugeot 4,175, Ford 3,603, Vauxhall 2,698, Rover 1,662, Citroen 1,574, Audi/VW 1,437, Renault 797, Nissan 195, Toyota 123, Fiat 122. Top 10 best-selling fleet diesel models in May were: Peugeot 306 1,528, Ford Mondeo 1,462, Ford Escort 1,276, Vauxhall Astra 1,240, Citroen Xantia 1,065, Peugeot 406 1,050, Peugeot 106 781, VW Golf 624, Rover 400 604, Ford Fiesta 538.
