PRICES of Volkswagen's all-new Passat range will start at £13,995 on the road for the entry-level 1.6E. Volkswagen announced prices to its UK dealers at the European dealer launch of the car in Cannes on Wednesday.

Price for the expected fleet best-seller - the 1.6S - is £14,495 on the road. However, subtract the £610 on the road charges and the £13,885 retail price undercuts the price of the Ford Mondeo 1.6 LX by £10.

Volkswagen fleet marketing manager Bernard Bradley said: 'We believe the prices represent the best value in the upper medium sector. And when you look at the quality of the car, the level of equipment and the size of the car, the Passat offers exceptional value.'
