MERCEDES-Benz customers will soon be creating their own cars - with the help of the latest computer wizardry. A touch screen allows customers to select a car, change its colour, add leather upholstery and even watch the car of their dreams on the move.
The screens are appearing in Mercedes-Benz showrooms and the CD-ROM based system can carry the equivalent of 750,000 pages of information. Trials have been going on in Slough, Liverpool and Walton-on-Thames and have already been judged a success. Mercedes customers with CD-ROM equipment will also be able to use the system in the comfort of their own offices.
