FORD has announced that after almost 30 years the Escort name will be dropped from its lower-medium car range. Although Ford declined to reveal what the new range will be called, the Escort name will live on as an entry model and continue to be built at Halewood until 2000, when a rival to the Renault Scenic based on the new car will be built there.
