The guide coincides with a new identity and major new direction for the RAC as it marks its first 100 years of operation by taking a technological and campaigning lead in providing 'smart' solutions to counter the mobility and journey management problems stacking up for the future.
RAC analysis of the 1996 Government congestion maps suggests that in just eight years the M25 will see peak period congestion most of the working day, congestion on all main routes in the south east will more than double, all motorways in the west Midlands will be on congestion condition red, and the M6 will be on red alert from Birmingham to Stafford and from Stoke to Manchester.
To help alleviate stress, the RAC advises pre-planning to beat congestion, road rage avoidance, and the adoption of better driving habits.
