A CASH-strapped Labour Government will be hard-pressed to take any action in the short-term to solve Britain's chaotic transport system. That's the view of the RAC, which says Labour must carry out a review of the UK transport system resulting in various pilot projects and research programmes prior to any new strategies being implemented.
RAC head of public policy Jeremy Wanke said: 'The new Government has the same problem as the previous Government - no money. Expectations are very high but there will be no investment in public transport and in the short term perhaps another cut in the roads programme because there are other spending priorities
'The initial signs are that the new Government will be quite thoughtful and not anti-car. What we have heard is sensible but they have not got the money to putplans into operation.'
