A BODYSHOP has stepped in to save a car rental branch in North Wales from closing down. Merit Motorbody Repairs has taken over Stapeley Selfdrive - Colwyn Bay's only vehicle rental outlet - and has plans to expand the business.

Merit agreed to purchase the BCR franchise after its previous owner retired, placing the future of its main supplier of courtesy vehicles in doubt. Partners Tim Yates and Terry Adamson have already increased the van and minibus fleet and have plans to add further vehicles to the line-up and launch new services.

Yates said: 'Running a branch is a challenge but we are determined to make a go of it. Residents need a local rental solution and we are sure we can provide the right service and vehicle choice whatever their requirements. Our own vehicle repair business will complement the rental side and could even increase business if people realise they can rent a new car while their own is being repaired.'
