AUDI will be unveiling the A4 range's performance flagships at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show. The S4 quattro and S4 Avant quattro continue Audi's S concept and are powered by an all-new six-cylinder bi-turbo engine with permanent four wheel drive which offers Porsche-like performance in saloon or estate guise.

The 2.7 30-valve unit develops an impressive 265bhp at 5,800rpm and 295lb/ft of torque between 1,850 and 3,600rpm. Top speed is an electronically governed to 155mph and the S4 can sprint from 0-62mph in a staggering 5.6 seconds. Scheduled to reach UK showrooms early next year, the latest additions to the S family have six-speed gearboxes and sit 20mm lower than the standard cars.

Standard specification will include four airbags, automatic air conditioning, and xenon headlights with gas-discharge bulbs. Prices will be announced nearer the launch date.
