FORD has unveiled the fastest yet Mondeo - the 150mph ST-200 - which was showcased at the British International Motor Show ahead of its early 1999 UK launch. The 200PS British Touring Car Championship-inspired car is powered by a 2.5i DOHC V6 24v Duratec engine and is the spiritual successor to the legendary Sierra Cosworth.

The ST-200 comes with full body styling, sports suspension and steering and 17in alloy wheels. It borrows much from the 1997 Mondeo ST-24 and while prices have yet to be revealed Ford says the new car is 'an affordable and practical grand touring sports saloon designed to appeal to the driving enthusiast'.

Available in five-door hatchback or estate the ST-200 delivers 200PS at 6,500rpm and 170lb-ft torque at 5,500rpm. Specification includes half-leather trimmed Recaro sports seats, front and side airbags, air conditioning and six-CD autochanger.
