THE roll-out of the new Focus continues in 1999 with the launch of saloon and estate versions in January. Its fleet appeal will be widened with a new 1.8-litre diesel engine, an option throughout the model range, and a four-speed automatic gearbox will be integrated into the line-up towards the middle of the year.

The Mondeo range will be topped off by a high-performance 200bhp ST200 model in May, with a 2.5-litre V6 engine and uprated suspension. There will also be LPG versions of the Mondeo and Focus being introduced during the year. Fleet buyers looking for a larger model will see the Lincoln arrive towards December, offering an equivalent package to the discontinued Scorpio, with changes inside and out being planned to give the car a more European look and feel.
