FORD is recalling almost 67,000 Fiestas and Courier vans to rectify a problem with the brakes. The manufacturer issued the recall, which affects new-shape Fiestas built between July 1995 and June 1996, after 20 customers reported cases of partial brake failure.

Ford has traced the fault to the routing of a brake hose, which if dislodged, can chafe against suspension components and leak hydraulic fluid - although the Fiesta's dual circuit brakes prevent a complete loss of braking.

No accidents or injuries have been reported as a result of the fault, but Ford is contacting all owners of affected vehicles asking them to take their vehicles to a local dealer for remedial work. In the meantime, concerned customers can get more information from a special hotline on 0345 345010.
