The report is the AA's response to the Government's consultation paper 'New Leadership for London' and it says transport in London should suit travellers, not those providing the services. Last week the Government confirmed it was investigating the taxation of workplace parking as part of its deliberations over the white paper on an Integrated Transport Strategy.
The AA calls for 'an action-focused, London-wide transport authority that includes travellers and the business sector' and wants a London Transport Authority to co-ordinate and oversee the strategic transport activities carried out by the ad hoc bodies that have grown up since the abolition of the GLC, such as the Traffic Director, Parking Director and London Traffic Control Unit. But boroughs must retain local controls where they are best placed to do the job.
