NATIONAL Car Free Day and Green Transport Week organiser the Environmental Transport Association is urging company car drivers to press their employers to adopt green transport policies. The environmental lobby group, the commercial wing of which operates a national roadside breakdown service for around 15,000 members, wants to see drivers offered cash alternatives to a company car, car sharing incentives, and pool bicycles for work journeys.

The organisation plans to step up efforts to encourage employees to form core pressure groups and to co-ordinate alternative transport initiatives such as 'ride-in-five' - pledging to take the bus or train to work, instead of the car, at least one day a week - and provoking debate by publicising initiatives through work notice boards, in-house magazines and the local press.
