SEAT has launched Britain's first diesel sports coupe - the £14,445 on the road Cordoba SX TDi. The GTi specified car - including air conditioning, 16in alloy wheels, ABS, twin airbags and a CD autochanger - offers fuel economy of up to 68.9mpg from the 90bhp engine.

Claimed as the first true sports diesel in the country, the car reaches 60mph in 12.5 seconds and has a top speed of 112mph with 153lb-ft of torque at 1,900rpm. SEAT also claims the full four-seat car has the largest boot space of any compact coupe.

The coupe's equipment package is shared with the new 2.0-litre 16v Cordoba SX, which has been adapted for rally use. Carlos Lopez Rubio, SEAT UK's product marketing manager, said: 'We have cemented our sporting involvement with the Cordoba SX and invented a new coupe category with the first ever compact diesel contender.'
