EARLY termination charges are the biggest bone of contention between fleets and their leasing suppliers. A comprehensive survey of 15,000 fleet decision-makers by AT&T Automotive Services found that penalties for terminating contracts early were widely considered to be unfair.

These charges were singled out by 25% of the 3,100 respondents as the principal way in which fleet funding services could be improved. Poor marks were also awarded for suppliers' unwillingness to adopt new technology, performance in meeting delivery dates, updates on order progress, out-of-hours maintenance facilities, accident management facilities, clarity of invoice information, speed of response to account enquiries and vehicle appraisal at the end of contracts.
