FORD has dismissed as 'market speculation' rumours emanating from the Detroit Motor Show that it is poised to buy BMW.

International news agencies circulated the story after Robert Eaton, joint chairman of DaimlerChrysler, said he expected a significant deal between two European manufacturers within the next three months. Other names whispered on the grapevine include Ford and Volvo, and Volvo and Fiat.
