THE introduction of road charging and workplace parking charges has come a step closer after the Greater London Authority Bill, which would give the mayor-elect powers to introduce these measures, completed its committee stage in the House of Lords.

The Bill now goes to report stage in the Lords before returning to the Commons. If the Bill is passed, the new authority will take control on July 3, 2000.
