THE Consumers' Association is to launch its long-awaited internet-based car import service, 'carbusters', on March 28. The scheme is part of the organisation's 'Great British Rip-Off' campaign against carmakers' reputed overcharging of UK drivers.

Through the website (which will be hyperlinked from FNN as soon as it goes online), the association will put Which? Magazine subscribers in touch with dealers on the continent and arrange the purchase of cars at on-the-road prices up to about £5,000 less than the equivalent UK-sourced car. A pilot web service has been running since the London Motor Show in October and since then deposits have been paid for 79 cars. The top seller is the Volkswagen Golf.
