A NEW fleet driver-training manual has been launched in response to Government demands for the fleet industry to slash accident rates.

Based on the Police Foundation's Roadcraft manual, Fleetcraft offers fleet decision-makers a template to educate drivers on risk management and health and safety in company cars.

Company directors face the prospect of jail sentences if the Government-backed Work-related Road Safety Task Group succeeds in its aim to have all employees driving on business covered by health and safety legislation.

The new manual illustrates advanced driving principles and techniques. It also covers road safety issues such as developing positive attitudes, critical self-awareness, use of mobile phones, navigational aids, combating driver fatigue, journey preparation and dealing with 'road rage'.

Fleetcraft is the brainchild of the Advanced Driving School. It was written by Jonathan Halliday, the school's technical director, in collaboration with Philip Coyne, the editor of Roadcraft.
