THE latest fleet training programme was launched by the Institute of Car Fleet Management at Fleet Show 2001 and immediately won approval from Kwik-Fit chairman Sir Tom Farmer. Two years ago Farmer gave his backing to the ICFM and called on companies to invest in fleet managers and fleet department staff.

At the Alexandra Palace event he was on hand to officially launch 'Key Start' with ICFM chairman Tom Madden, customer affairs director of BCA Europe, and ICFM counsel members. Farmer said: 'This new scheme builds on the success of the Institute's Fast Track certificate-level programme and Kwik-Fit is delighted to support the institute's latest initiative.

'Kwik-Fit is committed to the development of its own people, a fact that is confirmed by our accreditation under the Investor in People scheme. Increasing knowledge in the fleet industry allows companies to make savings, but it also makes them better customers, because they know what they need from their suppliers.'

Key Start is designed for new entrants to fleet operations both in-company and fleet service support administrators. Made up of a two-day residential module covering basic fleet management and administrative principles, it is claimed to enable ICFM Introductory Certificate level qualification to be attained within two months.
