CALOR Gas is to launch a new programme to offer preferred autogas converter status to garages that meet strict quality standards when equipping cars with equipment to run on alternative fuels.

The firm aims to increase confidence among fleets looking for aftermarket converters for their fleet vans and cars. The Preferred Installers Scheme will see a developing network of conversion engineers, linked to fleet vehicle dealers and retail refuelling sites.

All preferred installers will be listed on Calor's website and it is hoped that 30 conversion specialists will be taking part in the scheme by the end of next month.

Paul Oxford, sales development manager for Calor Gas, said: 'This is a logical step in ensuring consistent standards of work and easier access to advice and support for fleet managers. To be considered part of the preferred installer network, all converters must already be approved by the LPG Association and have links with the main equipment importers or distributors. The conversion equipment must be recognised by PowerShift.'
