Estates are a sensible option for the high mileage businessman with family commitments at the weekend. But these two estates aren’t a very sensible option, although from behind the steering wheel it might be hard to agree.

This is the first time BMW has brought an estate version of its M5 to the UK, no doubt with one eye on the hugely successful last iteration of the Audi RS6. But until the new Audi arrives these 500bhp-plus monsters are the choice. When it comes down to residuals, the ultra-desirable M5 holds its value superbly.
