Nissan has announced a new device aimed at helping drivers become more fuel-efficient.

The Japanese manufacturer plans to make the ECO Pedal available in its cars from next year, and claims it could reduce fuel consumption by 5–10%, depending on the conditions.

The pedal works by pushing back on the accelerator if it detects excess pressure from the driver, warning them that they could be using more fuel than required.

An eco-driving indicator in the dashboard shows real-time consumption levels to improve driving behaviour. The device can be deactivated.
