Tusker and benefits provider You at Work are partnering to promote a new online, automated salary sacrifice scheme - Drive at Work - which makes cars available to staff who would not normally qualify for them.

You at Work, which reaches some 750,000 employees in 300 companies, will promote the scheme to its customers.

Chief executive, Bruce Rayner, said the scheme could help companies who wished to achieve a reduction in their carbon footprint, as it typically promoted cars that emitted less than 120g/km of CO2.

This fits with other benefits, including subsidised bus travel, tax-free cycles and city centre car parking, that You at Work provides, he added.

“Drive at Work will appeal to those staff looking for a city run-about, for a second car or for a car for a family member,” said Rayner.

The scheme is based on Tusker’s SalarySacrifice4Cars, which allows employers to provide their employees with a car at no cost.

Employees surrender part of their salary in return for an employer’s agreement to provide the non-cash benefit.

Therefore, the employee saves income tax and National Insurance contributions.

Tusker managing director David Hosking said the scheme had already attracted the attention of some very large fleets, as well as accountancy firms and other leasing companies.
