Audi is to roll out a stop-start system across its range of cars, starting with certain A3, A4 and A5 models later this year.

The device works by cutting the engine when the car is stationary and the driver engages neutral. The engine restarts when the clutch is engaged.

Working in conjunction with an energy recovery system, which converts energy from deceleration, and a revised dashboard gearshift indicator system, the new models will cut emissions by around 5g/km.

The new system will be introduced on the A3 1.4 TSI with manual gearbox, and 2.0-litre TFSI petrol and TDI diesel engines also allied to a manual gearbox.

Prices will be announced closer to the models’ launch in the third quarter of this year.

Skoda has announced that deliveries of its Yeti crossover vehicle will begin in the UK in September.

The range will be available with a choice of front and four-wheel drive allied to familiar Volkswagen Group engines – 1.2 and 1.8 TSI petrols delivering 105 and 160bhp respectively, and three versions of the common-rail 2.0 TDI diesel with 110, 140 and 170bhp outputs.

Mazda's new 3 lower-medium model, which goes on sale this week, will be fitted with an 'emergency stop signalling' system as standard which activates the hazard warning lights when the vehicle detects heavy braking.

It is designed to reduce rear-end shunts. Prices start from £13,500.

A rear parking camera is nothing new, but Lexus’ new RX450h SUV will be offered with a ‘side parking assist monitor’ which uses a camera mounted in the passenger door mirror to display the side of the vehicle on a screen mounted in the dashboard.

Deliveries begin in July, and prices will be announced next month.
