Manufacturers of the most secure vans and cars have been recognised in the British Insurance Vehicle Security Awards.

Audi and Citroen received ‘Best Manufacturer’ accolades in the awards, which for the first time also looked at van security.

Research from Direct Line for Business shows 21 vans are broken into every hour in the UK- that’s 511 every day. It also found that 51% of vans do not have an alarm fitted, while 42% do not.

Citroen won the award with five ranges: the C2 Enterprise, Berlingo, Dispatch, Relay and C-Crosser Enterprise.

Audi received an unprecedented fourth consecutive Manufacturer award in the car section with nine models, the A3, A4, A5, R8, TT, Q5, Q7, A6 and A8.

Meanwhile, the innovation award was won by the Volkswagen Group for its Vehicle Secure Indicator, which allows an owner can check, even when they are away from the vehicle whether it is locked or not.
