BMW has launched a popular M Sport equipment grid in the new 5 Series range, which will be available from September.

Historically, M Sport variants have been the preferred variants in the 5 Series saloon and Touring range in the UK and are distinguished by bespoke aerodynamic styling kit, sports suspension, 18-inch M Sport alloy wheels and interior styling enhancements including sports seats and aluminium trim.

Prices for M Sport derivatives start at £31,270 for the 520d saloon.

BMW is also launching the new 535d from September with the twin-turbo 3.0-litre diesel engine now producing 299bhp and 443lb-ft of torque from 1750rpm.

Equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission, the 535d saloon achieves the 0-62mph sprint benchmark in 5.7 seconds, while fuel consumption on the combined cycle is 46.3mpg.

Unfortunately, CO2 emissions are slightly higher than the threshold to gain the 20% writing down allowance at 162g/km, while the 525d Touring achieves 44.8mpg and 165g/km.

Two new engine lines have also been added to the 5 Series Touring range: the 528i Touring uses a 258bhp 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine, while the 525d Touring uses a 204bhp 3.0-litre six cylinder diesel.

BMW is now offering a six-speed manual version of the X1 xDrive23d, which brings emissions down to 158g/km compared to 167g/km for the automatic.

On 1 Series and 3 Series models, the DAB option will also feature upgraded equipment from September.
